Diploma in Mythology
This Diploma is by independent distance learning (home study). No textbooks or course materials are supplied. The course will be completed by writing an extended essay based on your previous knowledge. The course is offered without tutor support.
The Diploma is suitable for people with relevant knowledge and experience seeking a qualification which can be gained through writing an extended essay showing knowledge of one or more systems of mythology and their importance in literature, spirituality and/or personal growth.
An essay of at least 6,000 words will be required that includes most or all of the following points:

An introduction to the mythological system of your choice: for example, Classical (Greek and Roman), Egyptian, Native American, Phoenician, Hawaiian, Nordic, African, Celtic

How these myths have reached us: main sources you have consulted

A summary of the creation story in your chosen mythical system

The main mythic characters, e.g. gods and other figures, and their attributes or powers; how they relate to each other and to humans

Some parallels between your chosen mythological system and other systems of myth

In your opinion, what is the purpose of myth? Does it still have a purpose in the modern world?

The influence of these myths upon arts and culture; have any modern stories (or movies, comic superheroes, computer games, etc.) been inspired by them?

The mythical characters as archetypes: do they tell us anything about ourselves? What lessons can we learn from them?
-
The rediscovery of classical mythology during the Renaissance
-
The influence of mythology upon psychology
-
The “Hero’s Journey” and examples of the Hero archetype.

How your chosen line of mythology has been understood and utilised by esoteric and New Age movements, religions and spirituality
-
Is there a practical spirituality alive today which communes with the ancient deities or powers?

Visualizations and meditations to connect with particular mythic figures

Mythical symbols and their use in personal growth

An account of the student’s own relationship with the particular mythological system – what does it mean to you and how have you been enriched by your mythological studies? Do you feel that you relate to any particular mythic figure – if so, why?
Your diploma will be inscribed with the particular mythological system you have chosen to write about, for example: Diploma in Mythology (Egyptian Mythology). If you are interested in more than one area of mythology, it will be possible to enrol for another Diploma in Mythology, concentrating in another specialist area, to be assessed by another essay.
You can apply at any time. Some students will want to apply before commencing their work on the essay because having subscribed to the course will help to motivate them to complete it. Others may wish to wait until they have done the essay and then apply, sending the essay at the same time by email. Choose the method that works best for you, though enrolling for your course first will enable us to send you some helpful information that will increase your chances of passing the course. Most people will be able to complete an essay within a few weeks.

A printed diploma will be supplied to successful graduates of the course and will be sent by post. The price for UK students includes postage. Extra postage is charged for overseas destinations. A transcript giving the highlights of the course requirements will be supplied with the certificate.
The certificate will bear the main logo of Conscious Courses and also be inscribed with the details of UK College of Holistic Training, its registered learning provider number, accreditation details and the relevant website addresses.
